Anyone else ran into the memorial in the vicinity of Jeff Park meadows? Ran across it a year or two ago and been wondering about Mr. Hermans (1967-1994) ever since. No easy info on the interwebs so far.
Cheers,
B

Re: Solitude and a Bear sighting on Cedar Mountain
My closest encounter with bear in the wilderness was up the PCT less than 15 minutes out of cascade locks, still within earshot of the freeway. Turned a corner and a big one jumped off the trail, then stopped, turned, and stared at me. Then I heard the scratching sound in the tree right over my head...

I see you went down wallowa past ice lake. I heard there was a fire up there in august. Did you notice any of that?

Re: Waldo Lake Circumnavigation: 6/28/13-6/29/13
One of my very first hikes was up to the lip of Waldo Lake from Black Cr. on the west side. I can corroborate: worst skeeter/flies I have ever experienced.

Re: Eagle / PCT / Ruckel Ck loop
As a professional horticulturist, it is common for vine maples growing in full dry sun to show coloration and stunted growth. They much prefer the cool humid understory. I was up there this last friday/saturday; I probably ran into you on the trail and didn't even know it!

Re: Wauna Point / Dublin Lake / and a Big Black Bear
My only close encounter with a bear in the wilderness happened less than 15 minutes south out of Cascade Locks on the PCT. It was a similar coming-around-the-bend experience. The bear quickly leapt off the side of the trail, but after a few yards, stopped, turned, and looked at me. That's odd, I tho...

Re: Jefferson Park Loop (9/15-16)
Hey we briefly chatted with you guys on your way up S. Breitenbush. Looks like you had a great time; it sure is purty up there. We saw 4 rangers in our quick one-night stay at the park. One of which was rather authoritarian and jumping-to-conclusions about us mis-camping (when we were just dropping ...

Re: All Over Oregon Aug 7-13th 2011
Sounds like you got a true taste of oregon adventure. Every time I travel, I am reminded that I will always come back to oregon. Can't seem to find any place better. I suppose I might move to washington or maybe b.c. someday, but you get what I'm saying. Cascadia repruzent! That canyon you were wond...
