Re: Deschutes & Willamette NF propose new limited entry

Would like to see more specific information regarding exactly which trailheads would have limits for day hiking. What a shame it has come to this :( The forest manager said this would first likely affect the popular trailheads on highways 22, 242 and 42. I'm guessing Whitewater, Obsidian (already p...

Yeah too much. I could tolerate forking over $5 for obsidian but I'll be hiking the bit extra from now on!

Re: Good snowshoeing near Bend?

Tumalo Mountain (from Ductchman) is nice but crowded on weekends. Probably the best easily accessible views.

A lot of people also snowshoe along Tumalo Creek. There's also a snowshoe trail to Todd Lake from Dutchman. Avoid the Swampy sno park trails.

Re: South Sister Pay 2 Play

Like the sierra permits - $6 to reserve, or free to walk up. I think you're right about Green Lakes being an overnight only permit, but then again they already are using the "stake" system. Obsidian and Pamelia are both day-use permits right now so it wouldn't be unheard of to make day use permits a...
